To baldly go where no dog has gone before ...

.

FluffyMy name is Fluffy; I am nearly 2 years old and have just begun training with Niki. My owner is donna, I also have 2 sisters, Usha a GSD and Tilly a Staffy/Lab cross, in fact the house is female dominated with only 2 males, myself and Donna’s hubby, versus 4 females what with donnas little girl too. Still if it wasn’t for Donna I guess I wouldn’t be standing around fields freezing to death, cold and wet. What makes it worse is I have no hair, well that’s not particularly true I have some leg, tail and facial hair which is typical of the breed I am, which happens to be a Chinese Crested.

Hairless dogs like me, have been around since 900-1200AD,

I actually come in two varieties Hairless, like me with hair on my crest, socks and plume on my tail, the Powderpuff on the other hand has long silky hair all over, how lucky is that!!! We are a bit houndy and can be likened to little ponies. It is believed we were first imported into Great Britain around the 1800’s and were regarded as a bit of a curiosity. Us hairless Crested’s can come in a variety of colours ‘mahogany’, ‘blue’, ‘black’ ‘steel-blue’, ‘elephant grey’ ‘lilac’ and ‘honey’, these colours are often broken with pink, whilst some of us have pink skin with coloured spots. Our teeth like that of other hairless animals, elephants and pigs, are forward pointing. We feel hot to touch, but feel the cold just as much as you do when you are wearing no clothes. It is believed we were apparently used as hot water bottles in eastern countries, and then eaten as a delicacy.

Our size is around thirteen inches and we can be a ‘cobby’ type or ‘deer’ type. I eat fruit and veg as part of my diet, but apart from no hair I am a pretty normal dog. I am really having fun at training, my owner on the other hand is a bit of a nervous wreck when it comes to letting me off but Niki is doing some therapy stuff with her to help her deal with this. So that’s me.
